James Bond PawPawty Update

Mai pals it is with a very heavy heart that I have to give you the news that I will not be able to take part in this weekend's PawPawty. My mum got a phone call early this morning telling her that her mum has passed away overnight.

It has been a tough morning for us all because my mum's mum (grandma) lived over in Belfast so mum is having to sort out some flights and all of the usual things that need to be organised. It was a real shock for us all because mum was only just talking to Grandma yesterday afternoon when she was complaining about the tennis results ( Grandma so loved to watch tennis ).

From what we know she went to bed and just passed in her sleep so at least we can take some comfort in the thought that she went peacefully.

So Mum will probably have to get on a plane sometime in the next 24 hours to go over to help sort things out.

Now you know she is always running late with #pawpawty organising and she has not had time to sort out the quizzers and the quiz schedule so we thought maybe if we just asked everyone who wants to be in with the chance of winning a prize to leave a comment on a blog post that we will organise later today we could then pick the winners totally at random sometime after the pawpawty when mum has some more time to do things.

Mum will try to say hello at some point during the PawPawty this weekend but if she cannot make it please do not let that stop you from having some fun and raising some money for our shelter. We will organise another blog post for the #pawpawty prizes later on today.

Grandma loved dogs and cats so we are sure that she will be surrounded by a whole crowd of loving anipals over the bridge.

Well mai pals another month has almost passed since the last PawPawty. I hope you are all having a lovely summer time. We have had some really hot weather but cause it is England of course it always has to rain and as I help da staff get ready for da pawpawty it is pouring wif rain outside. I say never mind cause whatever da weather you can come along to the Pawpawty next weekend where the theme is 60's Beach Pawty. I am sure there will be lots of fun and games as usual and of course we will be helping another great charity.

This month we will be helping a great new charity in the UK who are doing some fantastic work with dogs and people! Medical Detection Dogs are helping people who have life threatening health conditions by training dogs who can sense changes in their conditions using their amazing sense of smell. They also have some special doggies who can smell when a person is suffering from cancer and these doggies are helping to provide an early warning so poorly people can be treated faster. I know how special we all are to our hoomans so I am very happy that we are helping a charity that helps train these special animals.

Royal Wedding PawPawty

Mai Pals so sorry it has taken us so long to get details of this month's PawPawty published I blame the staff! However as some of you may know we are moving house so I guess they have had a few things to organise.

They tell me the new house has some fields of our very own with a river, I have not been there yet but little Ozzy McDougal has visited and he says it is fab. We will be all moved in the next few weeks so I hope to have lots of new pictures and stories to share with you all.

Anyhow enough about me! On to the Royal Wedding PawPawty!

This month the shelter selected to have a PawPawty in their honour is the Animal House Shelter in Huntley Illinois USA.

Animal House Shelter, Inc rescues abused and neglected dogs and cats and rehabilitates them mentally & physically in order to place them with the best new family.They rescue 98% of our dogs from high ‘kill’ shelters, pounds and various animal control facilities in which they are usually listed as strays, and almost always scheduled to be euthanized.

The best possible veterinary care is always given to those at Animal House Shelter.They never decline treatment, whatever it may entail, if it means that the animal has a chance at a new and healthy life.

They strive to go above and beyond when caring for and socializing our animals. They understand the importance of getting to know each and every animal available for adoption in an effort to place them in the most perfect home possible. All dogs are walked 4-5 times a day and socialized with each other and volunteers. The cats are housed in a large ‘free roam’ cat room so they can socialize all day with each other, staff, volunteers and potential adopter.

We hope that we can raise some funds for this great organisation as well as having some fun in the run up to the Royal Wedding of Kate and Wills! We have some great Royal Wedding prizes for your humans ! as well as lots of prizes for mai anipals!

Save Lennox

Can you imagine if someone came to your house and said that they were going to take your dog away because of how he or she looked? How about if they kept your family pet in a concrete pen for 11 months and did not allow you or your family to visit him? You had no idea of how he was being treated, apart from a photograph in which your dog is sitting in sawdust with no visible signs of toys or even a bed to sleep on.

And then what if a judge ruled that after all of this time your dog was to be destroyed.

It is hard to imagine how you might feel, heartbroken, angry, frustrated and utterly sick to your stomach, well this is exactly the situation that a family from Northern Ireland find themselves in today. On Tuesday this week all of twitter held it's breath for the update from @savelennox who had been in court to receive the sickening news that their boy Lennox who is a cross between an American Bull Dog a Pedigree Staffordshire Bull Terrier and a Labrador has been sentenced to death.

All of this is because he was declared a "Pit Bull Type" by the Belfast City Council dog wardens. This is as a direct result of the flawed Breed Specific Legislation.

In the mainland Great Britain, four breeds are currently subject to BSL under the Dangerous Dogs Act (DDA):

The Japanese Tosa
The Pit Bull Terrier
The Dogo Argentino
Fila Braziliero

However, also be aware that 'types' of these dogs are also affected. This means that your dog doesn't have to be a Pit Bull or Tosa to be subject to the DDA: it simply has display physical and behavioural characteristics similar to those displayed in breeds covered by the act.

The current legislation does nothing to protect an honest dog owner who takes all of the steps necessary to comply with exemption conditions ( which do not apply in Northern Ireland).

Lennox is Micro chipped, Neutered, DNA Registered, Pet Safe Registered, Insured and Licensed every year with the Council. Lennox's owners have taken all of these steps and yet their boy was taken.

Lennox has never harmed anyone, he is looked after by a responsible loving family, he could be your dog or mine. He has been away from his family for almost a year.

He should not be destroyed because this is all wrong.

Of course the council will want to show that they have been acting within the law and that all they are doing is simply 'following orders' but what ever happened to common sense? Why spend thousands of pounds creating a case against a dog who is so clearly loved by his family and now his case is supported and being watched all over the world. Why deliver a death sentence on a dog who has NEVER harmed anyone.

Imagine if you were a happy dog enjoying life with your family and then one day some people you did not know came to your house, appeared friendly and then took you away from everything and everyone you had ever known. I can not begin to imagine what Lennox must be going through.

The family are trying to get even more support and media attention to highlight their case and are gaining a huge following on twitter and facebook. An On line petition has over 25,000 signatures , you can show your support here. Time may be running out for Lennox so please take action today.

As a further show of support I would like to invite any bloggers to join this Blog Hop to show their support for Lennox.

All you have to do is write a blogpost showing your support for Lennox and link it to this blog. If you already have a blog post about Lennox then simply link it as well. Show the world the massive support that Lennox and his family have.

The animal community across the world is very powerful and has a voice , we have helped thousands of less fortunate animals with out fundraising efforts.

Now is the time to raise a paw in support of one lonely dog who needs to be reunited with his family, not sentenced to death.

Imagine if you were no longer around to look after your pets

This video shows two dogs, in amongst the rubble, one is injured and the other refuses to leave his side, when a film crew happened to find them.

It is hard for us to imagine waking up one morning and within 24 hours have our whole life change. The extent of the destruction and devastation in Japan is still emerging and each day brings sad stories to our screens across the world. But we also see stories of hope like the one with the dogs above who were rescued and are now safe and being looked after.

Imagine if you where this dog owner who happens to live near the quake-damaged Fukushima Dai-ichi nuclear power plant having to have yourself and your dog scanned for possible radiation.

Or this girl who is being isolated to try to to stop the spread of radioactive material being greeted by her dog.

Imagine if we lived in a world where no one cared

For the past two years the anipal community have come together on twitter to help anipals less fortunate then themselves. We have helped animal rescue across the world and made sure that animals in disaster areas are not forgotten.

Today of the 2nd anniversary of the PawPawty I urge you spare what you can to help World Vets who are an organisation from the USA who are already in Japan. They are working with local rescues centres and organisations to coordinate resources. You can make a donation using the widget on the right or directly here.

I am proud to be part of a worldwide community who do care and who have, time and time again responded to a plea for help from their fellow man.

So I raise a glass of Bacon Beer to you all to say thanks to each and everyone of you.

Paws for Japan

Mai pals I know that lots of you have been watching the terrible events in Japan unfold over the past few days and feeling like me that you want to help in some way. This is a shocking video which shows the extent of the devastation in the region.

I had a little word with the staff and also the guys at Blogpaws Be The Change For Pets who came up with a great organisation World Vets who we can all help support who will ensure that aid goes to animal relief that will be so desperately needed over the coming days, weeks and months.

So this year instead of celebrating the 2nd anniversary of the PawPawty on St Patrick's day 17th March with a pawty we will be supporting a day long Paws for Japan event which will take the form of blogging, tweeting and facebooking to raise awareness of the work carried out by World Vets.

So wear your St Pawtrick's day outfit with pride but also please consider donating to this worthy event which will help the anipals in Japan. We all know that animals play a large part in the healing process after any kind of stressful event so right now the anipals and the people of Japan need all of the help they can get.

WCK PawPawty What A Result

Mai pals thank you all so much for your support of the special Westminster Dog's Show PawPawty last night. It was a 1st for us doing a Tweet-A-Long so we were all so pleased so many of you managed to make it.

Special thanks to the Shibbering Cheetos for kicking off in style and getting us all in the mood to watch the show. Westminster Dog Show Viewing Pawty

Mai Pals I do hope you can join us tomorrow night between 7pm and Midnight EasternTime when we will be having a Tweet-A-Long viewing pawty for the Westminster Dog Show. We have lots of fun and games and prizes to be won as we will be having out very own best of competitions.

We know that lots of you will be watching the show live today and tomorrow and we are very excited to be having our Tweet-A-Long during the The Sporting, Working, Terrier, and Best In Show competition which will be televised live Tuesday on USA Network from 8-11 PM ET.

Thanks to PedigreeUS we will also be raising funds at this event for Save a Pet Illinois and for every one we see tweet with the hashtag #WKCpawpawty Pedigree will donate 1$ to Save A Pet, so at this event we don't need you to donate anything more than a tweet! So while we are watching all of those lovely pure breed pooches we will also be helping some of the less fortunate anipals who are in a shelter still waiting to find their forever homes.

We will kick off the event an hour before the televised show starts so that we can all be sitting comfortably waiting for the event and finish an hour after so that we can have some fun tweeting the about the show.

The famous Shibbering Cheetos twitter band will be entertaining us for the 1st hour so be sure to pop in and have a dance before we settle down for the viewing pawty!

We will be running a few competitions at the event and the Quiz Schedule will be published on the PawPawty site later today. Love is in the Air #PawPawty

Well mai pals it is so close to Valentines day that we thought we simply must have a love theme for this month's event. So mai pal @javathecat suggested Love is in the Air, which is a great theme for a very special event.

I know that a lot of you have been very concerned about how the animals in Australia have been coping with the awful flooding and cyclone and now bush fires so I wanted us to be able to find a way that we could help one of the shelters over in Australia. So I had a chat with mai pal @pepismartdog and he told me that the Animal Welfare League in Queensland would be a great organisation for us to support as they have been working so hard over the past few weeks to try to help all of the animals caught up in the floods.You can read more about how they have been helping anipals over the past few weeks here.

So at the Love is in the Air #pawpawty we will be raising funds for @AWLQ, but that is only half the story because thanks to our pals @pedigreeUS we are able to help out TWO shelters this month!!

This month's shelter drawn at random is Save A Pet GraySlake, Illinois, a great organisation who are currently responsible for the over 500 animals who may have been the subject of abuse, neglect, loss or relinquishment. On a daily basis, Save-A-Pet faces two basic challenges rescue and education. The rescue cycle includes the process and costs of intake, vaccinations, surgeries (i.e., spay/neuter), prescription food, preventative medications, chronic illness medications (i.e., for FIV, heart murmurs, allergies, IBD, arthritis, etc.), and the emotional healing of the residents. The educational cycle includes the process and costs of rehabilitating the residents before and after adoption, as well as the costs for training adopters in preventative care and solving behavioral problems. Thanks to the guys at @pedigreeUS every donation made to the Australian anipals at the #pawpawty will be matched by Pedigree who will donate the equivalent funds to Save A Pet.

Yep that's right for every $1 donated at the #pawpawty another $1 will be donated to  Save A Pet  GraySlake, Illinois.

Westminster Viewing Pawty
As if that is not enough  @pedigreeUS  will also donate an extra dollar to Save A Pet  for every anipal/person who attends an extra special event which will be held on the 15th Feb which is a special viewing / watch along party for those of you who will be tuning into the Westminster Dog Show. You can find out more about the Westminster Viewing Pawty here and we will post more details over the next few days!

So there really is a lot of Love in the Air this month, just imagine how much difference we can make to the anipals who need help in two countries.

Mai pals I cannot believe it is almost the end of the year again! I have been dusting down my crimbo decorations and getting ready to trim the tree! So for the final #pawpawty event of 2010 what else could we have but a festive theme!

So get your favourite santa, angel, or elf costume ready and join us this weekend for some festive fun and games! You can even come dressed as your favourite christmas decoration!

We have already raised an amazing $1825 for the six shelters but we need some more help to meet our goal of sending each of the shelters $800 as well as a big bunch of toys and treats for all of the anipals who will be spending christmas in a shelter.

You can read all about the shelters we are helping at the SantaPawsDrive site, there are three in the USA ,one in Canada ,one in the UK and one in Tenerife! All of these shelters were nominated by the anipal community on twitter or facebook and we would love to spread a little christmas cheer to all of the anipals in their care.

You can expect the usual great selection of prizes at the PawPawty and you can also be in with a chance of winning one of the great raffle prizes on offer from Santapawsdrive.

The Harry Pawter event will benefit The Last Resort Rescue, who are a great organisation in West Milford New Jersey. This is a little bit about them you can see more on their site

Happy Howl-o-ween

Well we never ever had a happy halloween card before so I was very pleased to get this lovely card from mai pal @hemmingwayscat, it is so cute.

We are almost all set for halloween, staff got a CD from the vets which has firework noises on it so we have all been listening to that to make sure that we do not get too scared when it comes to big bangs and spooky things later this week!

Staff have been so busy with work that they have been neglecting MY blog so I have given them a strict talking to and I expect to see some improvements over the next month!

Montreal Critters has been sponsoring PawPawty events for over a year. We initially discovered St Patricks' Day PawPawty and we were moved when looking at the Green Wall entitled "Bark if you're Irish!". It was such an amazing idea, with such a great potential (or should I say paw-tential :-). We participated in the following event and from then on we became a happy regular sponsor.

Why do you like to support the PawPawty Events?

In times where every company is jumping into the social-media wagon, we are trying to be authentic. We created montrealcritters.com from the ground up with the intention of supporting animal shelters and rescue organizations — that's one of our core values, not an afterthought. PawPawty events are a perfect match for companies and individuals looking to have a direct impact in the lives of many animals in need, both around the corner and all over the world. Plus, you get to have fun and meet the most diverse and interesting anipals in the Twitterverse. It's great!

What is your favourite PawPawty Memory?

There are so many good memories... I tend to get emotional when I look at the PawPawty walls and when a PawPawty finishes with @FrugalDougal's Champagne Chicken © . That's when you know that, as a group, we've made a significant difference. I also remember getting super excited when a local animal shelter that we nominated was accepted as a recipient for one of the events. It felt great!

Anipals are so creative — there are many inspiring moments at every event. I often catch myself laughing out loud while looking at the avatars or at the event menus. And a few days after the events, when we receive our PawPawty mugs, memories come back and we laugh some more.

What animals do you have?

We currently have 3 cats, 5 guinea pigs and a fish — all of them adopted. On top of that, we regularly foster small animals while we find a permanent home for them. We usually end up keeping the ones that have been seriously neglected or need time to be re-adapted, so our home is constantly being modified to host new fluffy critters.

Tell us a bit about what your store?
Montreal Critters is an online store specialized in products for small pets, serving pet guardians all over Canada. We started montrealcritters.com with the intention of helping animal rescues while offering a nice selection of healthy, specialized products for small pets. We help rescues in many ways: we regularly donate food, toys and treats to many shelters in Canada. We also to increase public awareness and subtlety promote animal adoption through our monthly newsletter, Twitter and Facebook. And of course, we participate in every PawPawty event!

What do you love most about twitter?
Twitter's best feature is without a doubt its 140 characters limitation. Such a constraint forces us to be very creative. PawPawty events would not have the same rhythm and interactivity on other social networks, I believe. Another great example of what can be done within such a constrained framework is @ZackRabbit's cooking show – isn't it inspiring?

What do you hate most about twitter?
Having to rely on many different tools to participate in an event is sometimes annoying. But the new Twitter seems to provide a much better experience. We'll give it a try at the coming PawPawty event.

What is your favourite animal charity and why?
We don't have a single favorite animal charity. We've worked closely with a few local no-kill shelters such as Montreal's Jiggley Piggley Farm and Ottawa's Ferret Rescue . We've also collaborated with Quebec's Rabbit Rescue. Montreal's Eleven Eleven Rescue is also worth mentioning — we admire their energy and dedication.
We keep on discovering new great groups at every animal adoption event we participate in. Our hope is to be able to help them, so we'll be nominating groups for upcoming PawPawty events!

What is your ideal PawPawty theme?
There have been so many incredible themes already. Our favorites were the Halloween, Sci-Fi, and 80's PawPawtys. Future themes? Maybe there should be a Back to the Caves PawPawty! Whatever theme ends up being selected, you can count on us being there. :-)

Howl-o-ween PawPawty Competition

Well I cannot believe it is this time of year already! The leaves are falling from the trees and the shops are full of pumpkins! Yep that's right it is almost time for the Howl-o-ween PawPawty all the details about the charity will be on the website soon as well as the links to the donation site. We are supporting Romeothecat 's charity this month so we will let you know the details as soon as he announces the recipient!

I know how you all love to dress up and so do mai pals at Petsmart and when the staff met up with them at Blogpaws they had some great costumes with them because they are having a special competition for the 6th Annual Halloween Photo Contest. You can enter the competition via their facebook page so be sure to check it out they have some great pwizes.

As a special treat they donated two costumes to the staff and you can see me below modelling both of them, honestly do I really look like a fairy tail princess cheerleader? Oh the shame...the only saving grace is that the outfits are both pink which as you all know is one of my favourite colours.

The things I do for charity !! I think I need to get myself a new agent, a dog of my standing should not be asked to do such things BOL!

Anyhow to be in with a chance of wining the cute pink hat or the pink cheerleaders outfit which is an extra large ( it will fit a less rotund, larger pup than me!) in size all you have to do is post a comment on my blog telling me what your favourite scary film is! Welcome to the very 1st Sponsor Sunday update, We decided to start these regular updates so that you could meet and find out a bit more about the fabulous people and companies who sponsor prizes for the Pawpawty Events. We have had such great support for a long long time from our generous sponsors so it is great to find out a bit more about them and their life away from the PawPawty!

So here goes with our very 1st guest Lucky Dog Treat Company who make delicious narural treats for doggies (drool) and kittehs ( double drool). How long have you been supporting the PawPawty events as a sponsor?
Well, I believe it has been about a year now. It's hard to keep track with so many of them!

Why do you like to support the PawPawty events?
That is easy! Animal rescue work is really at the heart of why I opened my business. It allows me to reward others for the wonderful work they do to make a difference in the lives of so many needy animals. I also really enjoy how much fun the events are to participate in and meeting all of the fun anipals in the process is just icing on the dog treat!

What is your favorite PawPawty memory?
Well, there are so many! I think I will just say (*to protect the guilty, and I'm talking about YOU niptini drinkers!) I really enjoy looking back at the sekurity report. It's a great snapshot of a fun time and sometimes too much fun had by all!

What animals do you have?
Right now I am the proud slave, er, owner of 5 wonderful pets. First there is Dixie, aka "Biggie Fats" our oldest cat. She is very selective with her affection. And no, you wouldn't want to meet her in a dark alley! Second, is my sweet kitty Sadie. She is my little love bug! Soft as a bunny and so very kind to me. Third came our youngest cat, Mimi, a real trouble maker! She has single pawedly chewed every pull cord from every window treatment we have in the house! Next is our Pitbull/German Shorthair mix Maggie. That girl is always tuned up and ready to go! So much energy, she is always keeping us on our toes. Lastly is our Pembroke Welsh Corgi, Krozby. Such a gentle soul. At the least sign of confrontation from another dog, he will turn around and waddle away as quickly as he can. He is a lover not a fighter! We are so proud that all of our pets are rescues and couldn't love them more.

A bit about what we sell
Lucky Dog Treat Company make and sells all natural, mostly organic dog and cat treats. Something for everyone! We also make select natural grooming products. Rubba dub dub! We started our business because of the growing concern over tainted pet foods and ingredient safety. Plus we wanted to be sure that whenever we can, we include ingredients that not only taste good, but are good the pet.

What do you love the most about twitter?
It's fast! and easy, to get your point across! And obviously it is a wonderful platform for pawpawty's!

What do you hate most about twitter?
Sometime I run short a few words in a tweet and with that tweets could be just a little bit longer.

What is your favorite animal charity and why?
I adore Pinups For Pitbulls! They are a fabulous group of ladies in the Philadelphia area that raise money for pitbulls/bully breeds for medicine, transport and other necessities as well as for pitbull breed awareness and education. Their main fundraiser is an yearly calendar, each picture featuring a tastefully dressed "pin up girl" and a pitbull! They have done much to change the face of the Pitbull as a breed and to teach people not to be afraid of them or discriminate against them simply because of their breed.

My ideal pawpawty theme?
Hmmm, we have already done so many good ones! Maybe a Beatles theme!

Save this Pup

I am not sure if you guys remember when mum 1st met the Save This Pup guys, it was way back at the 1st Blogpaws. The guys have come up with a great idea to let people (who can't actually give a home to a shelter pet) sponsor a pet who is in a shelter until they find their forever home.

We think it is a great idea for people who cannot give a home to a shelter animal because of where they live, or maybe just because they already have lots of pets. When they met last time the staff did a very funny video to try to help the guys get on the Ellen Show, I think maybe they had one or two barkeritas before the video was shot.

This time they had a fun tweetup and met some great new pals! Oh and they promised to show up somewhere special wearing the Save this Pup T shirt.

Any idea where the are yet? Looks like they are looking for something?

Help Joey

When the staff were at Blogpaws they met so many great people who care about animals, it really was an inspirational event in so many many ways. Pals old and new got to meet in the flesh or fur.

The staff made a promise that if they got a T-Shirt from anyone at the event that mum would wear it on part of the extended visit to the USA. The first guys to give her a T-shirt with possibly the brightest shirt where the guys behind the new and exciting Help Joey initiative. These guys presented a bright orange shirt and explained that their mission is to quite bluntly stop anipals having sex! This is a new take on the please spay and neuter your pet message that we have all been hearing about for years and years so it is kinda cool to see some guys saying it like it really is and we wish them great success with this fun and slightly tongue in cheek approach to the age old problem of reducing the unwanted pet population.

So without further ado here is mum as promised wearing the great bright orange shirt!! whilst fly fishing at Big Sky Montana!

They all had great fun wading through the Gallatin River in Montana and even caught a few small rainbow trout!

Great news is that if you want a chance of winning a Help Joey T Shirt the guys gave the staff a whole bunch that we will be giving away at the next PawPawty events. Who knows the guys may even show up at the next event.

Every day feels like my birthday

Mai pals thank you all so much for the special Happy Birthday wishes you have all sent me today, it is actually my birthday in June but I think mum mixed up the dates on the facebook thing!! You know how rubbish she is on facebook but I will let her off because she is generally very good on technical things!

Then again maybe I am a bit like the Queen of England who has two birthdays. One is her official birthday and the other one is a special holiday celebration day, typically in summer when the weather is better so the whole country can celebrate.

What ever the reason I am very lucky to have more than one birthday and would you believe that today was even more special because mum came home with a package which was at the post office waiting for us.

When she opened it she had to go and get a tissue for her leaky eyes, at first I thought it was something bad, but she read me the words that some of mai pals had written and I understood why she went all leaky in the eye department.

Inside the package was the most beautiful painting of me by the talented @zaziart as you can see I am wearing my favourite red bandanna!

So I say a huge big thank you to mai pals @pepismartdog @jazzydacat @zaziart @smokey8 @holliecatrocks @mouseholecat @mattiedog @mariodacat @maggietkat @danapixie and @henryandfriends for this beautiful portrait and your lovely words.

Mai pals called me the Pawty King so I think it is kind of fitting that we had my 'extra birthday' today when this lovely gift arrived. Well mai pals it seems like no time at all since we were having the last PawPawty, but here it is again the September Cruise Ship PawPawty! Some people are calling it the Fail Whale Cruise which we think is very funny. I sure hope we do not run into the fail whale too many times this weekend!

I hope we will be cruising around some lovely beaches like the one above!

Greenies Greenies Wasp Greenies

Well mai pals we have been very busy getting ready for the PawPawty this weekend and as if that was not enough I got stung this morning on the mouth by a naughty wasp this morning on my walk. Don't worry I am feeling a lot better now, I had to go to the VET because I was crying and panting and my mouth was swelling, but I got some pills to make me feel better so I am taking it easy supervising the staff as they get all the PawPawty pwizes sorted out.

Be the Change Calling all people who want to make a difference

Well mai pals I am sure that a lot of you remember that the staff went to Blogpaws in Columbus earlier this year. After a major travel mishap they got there and met some great people and they were part of the Be The Change session which was a great success.

Along with Jessica from Pawcurious, Dorian from YourDailyCute and Jane from Petfinder they shared stories of how they had each done some crazy things to help anipals all over the world. They also laid down a challenge to everyone who attended the session to do their own bit to help Be the Change, the result was a mini PawPawty, lots of bloggers, facebook fans and tweeters who all did just that and helped to raise over $2000 for Pets Without Parents a great shelter in Columbus.

But it was not just about raising money, there were lots of ideas of how to help keep this great thing going that they had all kind of invented together. Not everyone can donate to the monthly PawPawty events on twitter, or donate lots of prizes, or make videos, or write brilliant blogs. So they have been busy thinking up ideas and you will hear lots more about what they will be getting up to if you are going to Blogpaws West in September.

Share your story
One of the first things you can do to help is to visit the Be the Change for Pets on Facebook where you can interact and share your stories of what you are doing, or want to do to play your part in helping less fortunate animals all over the world. There is also a toolkit section so that you can all start to share things that work and get help and support from like minded people. One thing is for sure when you start sharing ideas and telling others about what you are doing or want to do well things just seem to start to happen.

So why not pop along to facebook and tell us what you have done, or are planning to do to help Be the Change in your part of the world. It does not have to be something new it could be something that you have been doing for a while and it does not have to involve pots of cash. Lots of little things add up to a huge difference.

Dog Days of Summer
As you would expect from this gang they have a new challenge that you can get involved in if it fits with how you want to help local anipals. Basically all you have to do is persuade your staff to purchase a little extra food when they next go shopping and then pop it along to your local shelter. It would be great if you can get a photo or a video of your staff handing over the nom nom noms to the shelter so that we can see all the different shelters and charities that we are helping. There is even a cute flyer that you can print off to include with your donation to the shelter.

I feel so inspired myself that I may even give up my usual treats for a week, then again I may just get the staff to give up wine for a week! Oh and just to be clear obviously this new challenge applies to Noms for cats and other critters it is not just for doggies!

And if you ever thought that one little act of kindness would not make a difference, well remember how the whole PawPawty thing started, it was just a few friends having some fun, a few drinks and laughs.

Beautiful & Just for me !!

Well mai pals I think I already told you what a great week this has been for me because I had lots of pwesents delivered! Well I finally got the staff to take a picture of me in my beautiful silk bandanna which mai pal @pasikas made for me. Kathleen is a lovely lady who is very talented and she makes these fantastic hand painted silk scarves. As you can see this one even has my name on it.

It is also ideal for this hot weather cause it is light and silky and does not make me hot around the collar! I know that lots of you have beautiful scarves from @pasikas because for a long long time she has supported the PawPawty events every month ( sometimes twice a month!) by providing two of her beautiful scarves as pwizes. You should check out Kathleen's website because there sure are some beautiful examples of her work.

The staff are very happy as well because as well as the lovely gift for me , mum got this scarf as well! We have all been very lucky this week!

Well mai pals I have been very lucky this week because I have had lots of pwesents arrive just for me!

Take a look at these great magnets that mai pal @no_crybaby_dogs staffs made I think they are lovely and I was so happy to have some to display in our kitchen. Lets face it there should be at least one picture of me in every room in the house!!

Well mai pals as some of you may know the staff have had some eye pawblems over the past few days so I guess I have to let them off for furgetting to announce the winner of the lovely print from mai pal @bordercollies it was impossible to pick a winner so we just had to put all of the names into a hat!

All da way from Germany!

Mai pals I really am such a lucky pup!! This week three parcels arrived for me from mai pals so I just had to share the pictures with all of you!

This package arrived from mai pals @RettetKaninchen and I could not wait for da staff to open it. Inside there was a lovely gift for mai staff ( a little model town which dey have not managed to put together yet!) We will make then take a picture when they get their paws around it.

For me this lovely pink wabbit which I love very much, as you all know pink is my favourite colour and I am always trying to catch wabbits in the smelly field but never catching one, so now I have one of my very own!

I also got some delicious treats which are made from pineapple and chicken I think I am gonna try one!

They are very chewy but I love chewy things and the staff say at least I have to chew them and not just swallow them whole, which is what I do with most of my treats. And the verdict is

TOTALLY NOMMY

Thanks so much to mai pals RettetKaninchen for sending me such lovely gifts! I will be watching the football this afternoon with my pink wabbit all da way from Germany!!

What a Cat Walk Show

Well mai pals what a great time we all had at the Model #PawPawty this weekend, it was another great event thanks to all of you for the part each and everyone plays in making these events fun for everyone.

We raised an amazing $1068 for Good Mews shelter in Atlanta thank you all so so much for your generous donations which I know will be put to good use by the guys at Good Mews! (you can still donate here if you did not get a chance at the PawPawty)

We had lots of great pwizes on offer and competition was as usual fierce, well done to everyone who won. But do not fear, if you were not able to attend you are still in with a chance of winning a great pwize. This wonderful print painted by the talented staff of @bordercollies and entitled Kat Moss which we love is up for grabs!

All you have to do to be in with a chance of winning is to post a comment on this blog post telling us which famous pawson you would be on the catwalk and why!! You can be as creative as you like so get your thinking caps on! The competition closes on Wednesday 23rd June at midnight UK time and we will announce the winner on Thursday 24th.

Well mai pals it is almost time for the Model #PawPawty which will benefit Good Mews shelter in Atlanta, so I hope you can come along and join in the fun. Remember you do not have to be able to donate funds to our PawPawty shelter to be able to join in the fun, but every dollar does go to a very worthy cause.

I have already spotted lots and lots of great outfits, you are all looking so cool, so I cannot wait to see the rest of your costumes and of course your model posing!!

Speaking of Models have you heard there is a very important competition running in New Zealand at the moment called NZ's Next Top Cat Model. Mai pal @mishakidd took part in this competition last year and was lucky enough to be one of the finalists, you can read all about it on the NZ Next Top Cat Model site.

It really is a great competition ( only open to NZ residents drat!!) and everyone who enters also helps to raise funds for one of three great charities in New Zealand which are Lonely Miaow @LonelyMiaow, Cats Protection League @WgtnCPL and the SPCA @RNZSPCA. So as well as being a great competition with fantastic prizes it really is a great way to help less fortunate anipals.

Barkworld - Pets are Tweeple Too

Mai pals I am not sure if you know this but the staff are off to Atlanta later this year in August because they have become a little bit famous in the social media world due to all of the work that they help me with on the #PawPawty.

Pawsonally I think it is a bit unfair because I am the brains behind this operation but I guess that I cannot really travel that far, getting on in years I do not travel well and I really hate aeroplane food yuk!! So I have had to agree to let the mum go to see all mai pals staff in America.

They are going to be there for four days to be a part of BarkWorldExpo which ia a social media event for pet owners and businesses who use Twitter, Facebook, YouTube..... well I use all of dem so maybe da staff will pick up some tips !! It’s also for pet owners who are either on the fence about social media or just interested in networking with other pet lovers.

Believe me it is gonna be a great event, I am busy preparing da speech for da staff as believe it or not da mum is a keynote speaker along with lots of other great people. The staff have something extra special planned for dis event but they won't tell me what it is!

The best news is that if you register now and are amongst the lucky first 250 people to register you will get a $30.00 Petco giftcard..... and if that was not enough, you will also get a copy of Dog on It - A Chet and Bernie Mystery written by the NY Times best selling author Spencer Quinn ( we know dat dis is a great read cause mai pal @yourdailycute did send us one for a pwesent ) the staff read it to me and I was on the edge of my dog basket with suspense!!

A fantastic Barkday

Hello mai pals we have been away for the weekend so been missing all of our twitter pals. We had a bit of an unexpected trip to the seaside in Norfolk as it was my birthday and the staff decided that they would take me too my favourite place the beach!!

We set off on friday evening and got to the lovely hotel called Titchwell Manor where they had a lovely doggie bed, bowl and some treats waiting for me! We settled in and then went to have some dinner and we were all very pleased that doggies were allowed in one of the restaurants so I was able to stay with the staff all of the time!!

On Saturday we went for a long walk to the beach and when we got there the tide was in and the sea was very very rough and it was so windy that it almost blew the staff over!

We also went to a village called Burnham Market and I stayed with dad in the pub while mum had a look around the shops! Then we went for a little walk around the village and we saw lots of houses like this made from Norfolk flint, they look very cute don't you think?

We had a lovely meal again on saturday night and then on sunday one final run and dig on the beach for me before we headed home!

We had a lovely time filled with more great memories and a lovely birthday treat for all of us! Thank you all so much for all of the lovely birthday barkouts mai pals we can't wait to see you all at the June High Fashion Model Pawty, this weekend.....I am gonna have to try to slim down this week to make sure I look my best when I strike a pose!

More than words can say

Mai pals I wanted to thank you all so much for the wonderful #dudefest celebration, in my honour which we have only just recovered from!! It was so lovely to have this idea suggested to me when some of mai pals wanted to have a celebration of all of the pawpawty achievements while I was still around to join in the fun! Given that I am a bit of an old boy now and we found out a few months ago that I have a tumour in my bladder, darn it I hate getting old!

It was a great event and a huge thank you goes out to all of you for your continued help and support. PawPawty started off in 2009 with just a few pals having some fun on twitter and it has grown into a wonderful movement which aims to help unfortunate anipals all over the world.

Thank you so much for allowing me to pick the two shelters who benefited from the #dudefest they are both great shelters who have been nominated continually for a pawpawty event and they both help animals in their care to find a new home or look after them if they are not suitable for rehoming.

Since we started this pawpawty thing we have raised $33,311 for 29 shelters from all over the world the breakdown in terms of countries supported is as follows:

15 located in USA
2 located in Canada
1 located in Australia
6 located in the UK
1 located in the Bahamas
1 located in Thailand
1 located in Poland
1 located in Germany
1 located in worldwide which benefited Haiti disaster

We have a great number of followers from all over the world and our aim continues to be helping shelters from different parts of the globe. As you know on alternate month's we support @romeothecat 's furpower challenge which supports small registered shelters who help mainly cats within the USA.

We like to support smaller shelters who do not have access to large marketing budgets or thousands of existing supporters, indeed many of the shelters we support are funded entirely by volunteers who give up their time to help care for animals who have been rejected by the rest of society.

It has also been a great pleasure for my staff to have met some of you in real life when they travelled to New York for the Shorty Awards and also when they attended Blogpaws earlier this year. We hope that they will be able to meet many more of you face to face at BarkWorldExpo and again at BlogPaws West later this year.

The PawPawty events have helped to raise awareness of how we can provide much needed funds and many of you have gone on to hold your own events which have also helped shelters close to you or for which you have a special bond. It is heartwarming to think that we have started something which has spread to help so many animals.

We have around 40-50 prizes donated each and every month from individuals and companies, these help us have some fun quizzes at the events and it is such fun to see all of the photo of you receiving your prize package in the mail. A big thank you to each and everyone who has ever donated a prize.

Giving your time is also am important part of the events and each of you who play a role such as a BarkTender, a DJ or CJ, a Quizmaster, or as part of Sekurity team , E-Cafe , Cookie Cafe and Merchandise designers all have my eternal thanks for all of the effort that you all put into the events each and every month.

Of course I have to say a huge thanks to all of you who are able to donate funds to the various shelters we have supported, I know that times recently have been tough for people all over the world so every dollar really does help and your continued support is very much appreciated.

Just joining in the fun and making new pals is also a big part of what happens at the events and it has been my pleasure to be a part of such a great band of pals who provide support through the good and bad that life likes to throw at us.

If through what we have created together even one more animal has a better quality of life or finds a loving furever home then all of this has been more than worthwhile and for that I thank all of you because without you none of this would be possible.

It was however with great sadness that I saw some messages on twitter which suggested that people were being ignored if they did not donate funds and, even worse comments which implied that funds where not being send to charities, and that perhaps myself or people associated with the pawpawty or dudefest events have been personally benefiting financially from the events.

So in addressing these comments I would like to say that the only fantastic benefit that I have ever received from these events is to be lucky enough to be a part of a very welcoming community of like minded pals who want to try to make a difference.

My intention was never to make it an exclusive 'club' where you have to donate funds to be able to join in. I make no bones about the fact that we ask for donations it is after all a big part of why we have the events, but we never intentionally ignore anyone who is not able to donate. Indeed unless people choose to leave their twitter details on the donation pages, anipals at the pawty have no idea who has and who has not donated. Ultimately it is a choice, if anyone does not want to donate to a specific shelter, then that is their choice and no judgements are made either way. It is also pertinent to note that during a pawpawty more than 2,000 tweets are usually exchanged and if someone does not get a reply this has never to my knowledge been intentional, it is more likely that the tweet simply got missed in the general tweeting madness that is the pawpawty.

As to claims that the funds do not go to charities or that the charities or shelters are not real, well, anyone can nominate a shelter to go into the monthly draw to be the recipient of pawpawty funds. Nominations come from the anipal community in the main and are shelters or charities who are known to the individuals making the nomination. The draw is a random selection so it can be a shelter from anywhere in the world who is selected. Although the majority of the nominations are for USA shelters so they do have a better than average chance of being selected.

All of the Firstgiving, Justgiving pages which are created for the registered shelters are available on line for anyone to access. We do not have any direct access to funds donated in this way, they are paid directly to the registered shelters. On occasions when we have used Chipin it has been occasionally linked to our own paypal account. However these pages are also available for anyone to inspect with regard to the amount of funds raised. All of the shelters we have supported are listed on the main pawpawty site and anyone can get in touch with them to check if they did indeed get the funds that were raised for them.

The PawPawty events are all about helping animals worldwide so if people want to help shelters which are more local to them then I am sure that there are more than enough shelters out there who would be happy to have additional help and support.

We have come a long way mai pals and I believe that there is still more to do and I will continue to help animals who are not as fortunate as we all are, from wherever they are in the world.

Part of why the PawPawty is such a success is the very fact that it is made up of a community of people from all over the world, with different views and opinions on all sorts of things. But with a common goal to try to make the world a better place one paw at a time. You don't have to have bags of cash, or be able to design websites, or create menus, or blip tunes, or serve great drinks to play your part. All that is required is an open mind, a love for anipals, and a desire to do something to help, because every positive action you take today could make a difference to an anipal somewhere in the world who needs your help.

Once again I give you my heart felt thanks for the wonderful #dudefest that was held in my honour and the beautiful comments you have all left on the tribute site created just for me. I hope that long after I have passed to the rainbow bridge mai pals will remember the little terrier from England who tried his very best to help his pals one paw at a time.

Mega Dudefest

Mai pals I just wanted to say a huge thanks to you all for organising the Mega Dudefest coming up on Sat and sun this week in my honour. It all started a few months ago when I found out that I was not very well and had a tumour in my bladder, at that time a few of mai dear pals said that they wanted to have a special event for me. I was incredibly touched and honoured to get so many messages wishing me well.

When I found out that I was poorly I did not want people to be sad because I have been lucky to have such a happy life full of love and good pals to share the ups and downs with. So it was fantastic when mai pals suggested that we have a pawty to celebrate, little old me. Of course you know I could not have a pawty without helping out some other anipals so at this weekend's Mega Dudefest we we will be helping two shelters.

The 1st one is a shelter that my great pal @emmythecat introduced me to, some of you may know that Emmy and her hoomans foster little kittens from this shelter and look after them until they are big and strong enough to go to a new furever home. Emmy was one of my very first pals on twitter, and she also inspired me to set up the pawpawty events after I saw the competitions she was having on twitter to help raise funds for Red Nose Day which is a big charity event in the UK. So this is my little way of saying thank you to mai pal @emmythecat for all her kindness on twitter and also for her good work looking after the foster kittys.

The 2nd one is a lovely rabbit shelter in Germany, which my pal @RettetKaninchen introduced me to. These guys provide a safe haven to abandoned, abused, and neglected domestic rabbits with the aim of placing them in a new furever home. As you all know I like to try to chase rabbits in the smelly field where I go for my daily walks ( don't worry I am too slow and a little blind now so I never ever get even close to catching one!) , so I thought I would be a good doggie and help the great people at this shelter help my little furry bunny pals. I hear that they are needing to fix a very leaky roof at the shelter so perhaps we can raise some funds to help with this.

So mai pals I am gonna have a great time at the dudefest this weekend I hope to see lots of you there. As for my health well things are doing ok at the moment, I have medication that I take every day to keep the pain away, and to help my liver cope with the medication that I have to take. I sleep a lot of the time, when I am not keeping an eye on the staff, because you know I have to keep them on their toes! All I know is that each and every day is a blessing and I hope to be around for a while yet to help save more less fortunate anipals.

Special Bark World Competition

Mai pals as you all know we are having a special Pyjama Pawty on the 14th /15th May but as it is a mini pawty most of da anipals in the Uk and Europe will be asleep when it is happening. So we are having a special competition that everyone can join in before or during the Pawty.

The pwize is a very cute handmade doggie, he has a brown and cream tweed pattern body with a cream face and a black nose, he even has a little black tip on his tail! You can see him in the picture above with a couple of his pals, he would make a lovely pal to snuggle up with while you are in your PJ's.

Well mai pals it is time to reveal who the three lucky shelters are this month. As you all know we had three chances for your nominated shelter or charity to be a recipient of some extra funds. Well mai pals it is time to make sure you have your nominations in for this month's pawpawty!

You have until the 7th May to get paws busy nominating your charity or shelter! You can nominate on the main PawPawty site nomination page. (If you are having any pawblems with this page please leave a comment on this blog post, or DM me on twitter)

The even more exciting news this month is that we have an extra mini pawpawty on the 14th May which is you chance to find out more about the BarkWorldExpo Event , as well as all the usual fun and games! The staff are hopping over the pond again to be a part of this event, they seem to spend more time in the USA than home with me at the moment. I think Mattie musta been selling all the panties that the shibberingcheetos have thrown at them every time they play!

Mai pals I am so sorry that I forgot to announce the winner of the Bissell Spot Bot Pet competition that we ran on the blog a few weeks ago as part of the Be The Change Blogpawty.

In which I find out I am ashamed to be in the UK home of anipal lovers

Mai pals it is with great sadness that I listened as the staff read an article that was in the Daily Mail today about how in the UK we have got really really good at not having lots of stray dogs running around the country. At first I thought this was a good thing and then the staff did explain that it is because all of the unwanted doggies ( and kittehs and other anipals) are being rounded up, kept for a maximum of a week and then "put to sleep".

I have been involved over the past year with lots of charities all over the world and often thought how good it was to have "no kill" shelters and charities which will not put any anipal to sleep under any circumstances. All the while I was thinking that was how most of the shelters and charities operated in the UK , after all we are meant to be a nation of animal lovers.

Then I find out that all we have got good at doing is making the pawblem go away by rounding up all the unwanted animals and basically KILLING them, thus making us
a KILL when the pawblem gets too hard to handle nation.

I am ashamed.

I am not gonna take this lying down.

I am gonna do something about this.

I am gonna save more anipals.

The Mousie Trap

Mai Pals I felt that I had to let you all know that the 'trap' we have set for the mousie that got in to the housie is a humane trap that does not harm the mousie. As you can see when the mousie goes in site to get the treat that is at the end of the trap, the little door closes so the mousie is caught and we can set him free outside.

I did not want any of you to be worried about the mousie, and just wanted to assure you that despite having Zack and Millie in my house as well as me the mouse will come to no harm.

This is Zack my brofur he is usually the one who brings the mousies in to the housie as pwesents, generally he is very gentle with them and simply does a little meow to let us all know that he has brought a new pal in to the house!

Below you can see my sisfur cat Millie, she looks a bit fierce in this picture but that is because she has just spotted Zack having some of her Nip!

I will be keeping an eye on the mousie trap and we will let you know as soon as we manage to get the little guy back outside where he belongs!

BlogPawty Time

Today is the day we are having an extra mini pawpawty for the charity which was selected at the BlogPaws Be the Change Session which the staff were at just over a week ago. The session was all about how everyone can do their little bit to help anipals and that is why some of us have been wearing some #Bethechange twibbons.(it is not a political thing more like a PAWlitical thing!!).

At the session the staff from @petfinder did tell the story of how Petfinder was set up by an ordinary couple who made a commitment to helping anipals.

Someone who is well known to the anipal community @yourdailycute staff explained how she came up with the idea of sharing all of the cute pictures and videos and how she was the mastermind behind SantapawsDrive which helped 6 shelters all over the world at christmas time.

Dr V the staff of @Pawcurious explained how she did a blogathon to help a shelter and she did a blogpost once every hour for 24 hours, she even ate dog food to help raise funds!

At the session we did asked all of the people with blogs to help raise money for Pets Without Parents by joining in and posting the widget on their bloggy, and by making a post about how they were going to help #bethechange. The great result is that so far $1249 has been raised.

The staff did try to explain what a PawPawty was and what we do and she told all the people some of the funny things that we get up to.

So we decided that it would be a good idea to invite all of the new ppl and their anipals to attend a special Blogpawty so they could see what it is all about.

Now I am expecting all of you pawty anipals to be on your best behaviour, and to help any new pals that you meet later today. But most of all I want you all to have some fun and celebrate what this community has achieved not just this week, but over the past year.
Hopefully we will all meet some new pals who will come and join us on the PawPawty adventure every month.

As part of our special event #bethechange on twitter and animal blogs this week, to help Pets Without Parents in Columbus Ohio, we have a great giveaway donated by the guys at Bissell.

The Bissell guys are at America's Family Pet Expo in California this weekend and they will be giving away some fantastic items at the event, including a SpotBot Pet, and the great news is that you all can have a chance to get your paws on right here on line!

Be the Change... The journey part 1

Well mai pals what a great week this has been.... this time last Thursday staff No1 (mum) was on an aeroplane somewhere close to Atlanta USA. She was just about to find out that she had actually messed up the booking for her onward trip to Blogpaws in Columbus Ohio.... and had actually booked herself to go to Columbus Georgia.

Much panic and some charging up and down the many terminals at Atlanta airport ensued. You actually have to get in to a train to travel between the different terminals at Atlanta and they have possibly the most unfriendly signage in the world.. if you have been you will know what we mean!

So after some frantic phone calls and parting of some additional cash about two hours later the staff No1 was on her way to the correct Columbus, minus her bag as this had already been loaded on the wrong plane.

Finally arriving at Columbus at about midnight, she expected to go straight to bed, but was over the moon to discover that one of her twitter pals, of Shorty Award Fame @bztat was still awake doing some last minute prep for the next day. A few beers later they had put the world to right and were both more relaxed and ready for a kip ( sleep to all my US pals!)

Next day the bag had still not arrived and there was no sign of if ever getting there so obviously some essential purchases where required! Namely knickers (panties to my US pals). Now what she got, I have to say are definitely more Bridget Jones than Victoria's Secret, I could happily make a three dog tent from one pair.

So my Be the Change Part 1 is to always make sure that you have a spare pair of knickers ( or panties) and if you are fortunate enough to be carrying a spare pair at all times... consider donating even $6.99 (cheap knicker cost from CVS...3 pairs) to a charity and shelter.

It was not the end of the world that the staff did not have her bags, but a $6.99 (or less) donation to a charity or shelter could help change the world for one animal.

Seriously folks it is not all about money, sometimes it is your time, your creativity, your voice, your technical skills, that can and will help make a difference.

I though it before and now I know it, together we can make the world a better place...and it all starts with one little step.

I am such a lucky boy

Well mai pals the staff have just about recovered from #blogpaws it really was a wonderful event and we can't wait to hear when the next one is. The staff are missing all of the staff that they met, it was truly inspirational to meet with friends that they had only previously tweeted with, and of course to meet a whole new bunch of pals.

Now that they have got through all of the unpacking and stuff they realised that there was a package for me!! I was so so excited to see what was inside as I knew it was from mai pal @puppyaguineapig who makes lovely charms.

Puppy's staff made me a special collar charm with Petalite, Appatite and Turquoise to provide some healing for me and hopefully keep me healthy for a good while longer. As you can see it is really beautiful and you can bet I will be wearing it every day.

With the gift there was a beautiful card with some lovely words on it, the staff read it to me and I think the words sum up some of what we were trying to explain to people at the Blogpaws #bethechange session so I wanted to share them with you.

Blogpawty - Special Event

What a great time the staff had at Blogpaws it was such an exciting event with lots of fantastic speakers and sessions, I can't wait to hear all the staff's new ideas for implementing better blogging, as you all know they have been pretty hit and miss with the whole blogging thing!

I am expecting a full debrief when they recover from the jet lag, but in the meantime I wanted to let you all know that as part of the panel that we did with @petfinder @yourdailycute and @pawcurious we selected a shelter to have a special event for so we will be having a #blogpawty on the 21st April, running from 7pm EDT to 22nd April 1am EDT, you can check out the twtvite for more info!

Be sure to let us know if you can make it, we would love to see all our pals old and new at the event.

The shelter who will benefit from the funds raised at the event are the guys at Pets without Parents they are a great organisation and we are excited to be able to help them raise much needed funds.

All I can say is it is a good job that the staff's suitcase did turn up so we could fill it with all the goodies that our pals donated.

What another great PawPawty mai pals, thank you all so much for making this Pawty an extra special one, we celebrated PawPawty being ONE whole year old and raised $1450 for Potcake Pups. None of this would be possible without the dedication of the PawPawty organisers and participants. I never imagined a year ago that we would have a full team of DJ's, Barktenders, Chefs, Sekurity, QuizMasters who dedicate time and effort to making the events a success time after time.

St Paws PawPawty - Potcake Place

Well mai pals we have held the draw for the recipient of the February #PawPawty and I am pleased to announce it is Potcake Place which was nominated by @buzzlucas

About the Charity
"Potcake Place was first set up in a home on Providenciales, Turks and Caicos, which has fostered puppies for many years. They are a Non-Profit organisation made up of a group of volunteers who want to help these rescued potcakes. They take pups to the vet, and give them all vaccinations, wormers and other treatments appropriate for their age.

There is no animal shelter in The Turks and Caicos. They look after these Potcakes in their own homes until a permanent home can be found. Their policy is to house the pets for as long as it takes to find the best home. This is the only alternative they can see to them starving in the bush, being run over, intentionally poisoned, dying of Heartworm/Ehrlichia/Parvo or being euthanized.

They socialise the pups with beach trips, and organise dog training where necessary. They meet potential adoptive families for a play session with the pups. If an adoption goes ahead, we take the pup to the vet to arrange a health certificate, book the pup on to the plane, and meet the families at the airport. They also spend time finding volunteers to transport the pup if the family are not visiting the island.

Their aim is to increase the chances of finding a place for every Potcake. They hope Potcake Place can grow to involve more foster homes and to continue an adoption programme."

Happy PawPawty Anniversary......What a year

Well well well mai pals PawPawty is almost one year old, yep on the 17th of March last year we held our very first 24 hour pawpawty. This is the paws wall created by the lovely @emmythecat for the event. There are some pals on there who are now over the rainbow bridge so to you mai pals I say Sláinte, you are in our thoughts often.

Back then in 2009 we only had about 15 pwizes to give away, now we have over 50 each month thanks to all you kind pals for donating great stuff.

We also did not have so many great DJ's we had not even thought of having a fancy menu or barktenders to serve drinks and noms, and we had to bark and hiss at the spammers and norty peeps ourselves cause the Sekurity team had not even been invented! Now thanks to pals like @fergusthedog, @javethacat , @georgetheduck , @snick_the_dog we have whole teams of anipals who help out each and every month.

I want to say a huge thank you to each and every one of you who have helped make all of this possible, your passion and creativity continues to burn bright. Every week I hear of great new ideas and events that are helping animal charities all over the world. Together we really can help animals one paw at a time.

What a year, what a lot of fun and games we have had and of course what a lot of money we have raised, in total we raised almost $25,000!

So it seems only fitting that we get out the green outfits again and have another St Paws celebration, I know the PawPawty is a few days after St Patrick's day but the Irish ( my staff is Irish so I can say this) usually party for days anyhow.

So with the luck of the Irish we will have another great PawPawty and heres to another great year of helping animals one paw at a time.

Thanks Shorty Awards

Well mai pals what a blast we had at the shorty awards, it was great fun to meet up with all of the other finalists. We thought that I might be the only furry anipals at da event but we saw a lot of Grover from @sesamestreet who did come joint first in the Brand section, he sure was a popular guy!

We also met Jason Sadler, from iwearyourshirt.com, we might have to get him to wear a #PawPawty shirt at some point this year, check out da photo.

Da staff realised wot a small world it is when they met @bernado, who is da dad of mai anipal @mr_pinkerton, he did let us hold an award he was collecting on behalf of FrankAdman, who did come first in the advertising category. We also found out that @mr_pinkerton knows an old pal of ours who makes great doggie treats @bakerdog so we asked him to say hello to Paul from us.

My mom said a big hello to carelpedre who did win a special award for all of the great work he is doing in Haiti, we did tell him about the special #pawpawty we did to help anipals in Haiti last month.

We were pleased to see that so many UK based people won awards, how could we ever live without Tweetdeck who did win an award for da Application category. The very funny MrsStephenFry did win joint first in the Humour category. We also met and had a great after awards celebration with twitchhiker who won the award in the travel section by travelling all over the world with the help of twitter pals to raise money for charity!

Little Donkey Little Donkey....

What a lot of great comments we had in response to the 'own your own donkey draw' we have all had a great time reading all of them.

The only way to pick a winner was to use one of those random selection things wot you can find on the internet and so that is what @kolo_martin did, he told me this.....

An extra special pwize from an extra special pal

Well mai pals I hope you are all set for the Anipal Winter Olympics #pawpawty this weekend? We have almost got everything ready, but I just had to tell you about a special prize which is open to everyfun, even if you cannot attend the #pawpawty.

Mai lovely furry pal @kolo_martin came up with a brilliant prize of a year's donkey adoption from the Isle of Wight donkey sanctuary. The winner will be able to choose their own donkey from the website and they will get an adoption certificate with thier name, a picture of their donkey and newsletters about the donkey throughout the year.

This is a pwize that everyone can enter, and all you have to do to enter is to post a comment on this blog telling us why you want to win the pwize. Then on Monday @kolo_martin will do a random draw to select the winner from all of the entries received.

This type of prize is a really good example of how you can do two things to help anipals, cause if you donate a pwize from another shelter like Kolo and some of mai other pals do then we get to help even more anipals.

In which I find out that I will not live forever

Well mai pals this is possibly the hardest blog thingy that I will ever do.

Some of you will already know that I have has some recurrent problems over the past few months with some blood when I go for a wee/pee. Well the news we had from the vet a few weeks ago was not good news mai pals, the staff have been very very upset and they did ask me to wait a while before I told you all that I am not very well.

I have a big(ish) growth in my bladder, it is not in a bad place that stops me having a wee but it might be the thing that begins with C. Now I know that some doggies and kittehs can have treatments that helps them get better, but the thing is that my little kidneys and even my liver are a little poorly as well so they would probably not be able to stand the treatments.

Then again maybe I could have an operation that would take the growth in my bladder away, but the problem with that is cause i am nearly 14.5 years old everyone is worried that I might not make it through such a big operation, and if it is the C words then it would not make any difference. I don't want the last thing I see to be a vets operating table ( no offence lovely Catriona vet lady but I when I go I want to go in my own house in my own bed) .

So for the past few weeks I have been trying out some pain medication and some tablets for infection that I will probably gets every now and again cause of the growth in my bladder. I have to say that I have had more than a little spring in my step since I have had the pain medication. ( the vet says that it is a bit like the pain a lady gets when she has something called cystitis so it is not real bad pain but it is not a nice thing to have).

With the medication and the check up's I am still enjoying my life, having lots of treats and still eating for England ( which is a good sign). I am looking forward to mai staff going to New York to maybe win an award for me and more importantly for all of da anipals. The week after they get back we are all going on a lovely beach holiday in England. The beach is my most favourite place mai pals and I know we will have lots of fun, I will be digging and stealing fish and chips the whole time.

While the staff are away in New York I am going to stay with my most favourite dog sitter Hilary who has bought me some doggie socks just in case I get that paw pawblem again, and she does carry me on her back when we do walking with the big doggies and I get a bit tired. Hilary also knows how to look after me with all my medications. So I am looking forward to all of the special New York treats and gifts that the staff will has to bring back for me!

The staff and the vet do not know how much longer I have but we are all determined to have the best time possible in whatever time we have left together. I hopes it will be for a long time but the truth is we just don't know.

I not want anyone to be sad sad about this I have been the most luckiest doggie in the world, I have been loved, spoiled, kept warm and fed well ( a little too well at times, but dat only because I have the most adorable begging little face!) . I have been on lots of holidays and hope to fit a few more in before it is my time to go.

The staff have been having a hard time thinking about all this recently, that probably why they keep getting sick and things, so I have been trying to make them see that is it ok and that although maybe they has to say goodbye to me, I will always be with them in their hearts and that someday we will be together again.

I fink that I has taught the staff a lawt, like how exactly I like my carrot and peppers chopping up, and how I will only chase the chicken that mai pal @cosmohavanese got for me when I am ready to chase it. They also know which stick I will fetch ( cause i can chew a bit off it ) and which I will turn my nose up at! They know how I like to sleep in the mama bed with my bottom in their face, or horizontal between them in the bed ( are there any other positions??)

I have also taught them that love is a strange thing that can change the world, if enough people share the same love and hope, and that they should never underestimate what a little dog can do.

Please mai pals not be sad, be happy dat we all got to meet each other and that we can still have some fun. As the saying goes....

There is life in the old dog yet!

Anipal Winter Olympics PawPawty

Well mai pals hot on the heels of the very successful #rudypawty yesterday where we raised almost $600 for Maine Coon rescue in memorial of our great pal and barktending master @rudyCKat, its time to get ready for the official Feb #PawPawty.

You all voted the Anipal Winter Olympics as the theme and I am glad to see that lots of you have been already getting into the spirit of true olympians by taking part in the #teddyolympics. What a talented bunch all those teddy's are mai pals.

So the Anipal Winter Olympics starts at the usual times on Saturday 20th February and goes on for a full 24 hours.

Why not come along and join in the fun and games, and help another great shelter The Pet Samaritan team in Salt Lake City Utah, are recipients of this month's PawPawty event and they also have the support of @romeothecat 's Furpower network so we should be able to help them with some much needed funds.

Anipals, I am Zack, (also known as Zack the Hack). I normally don't get to address you pawsonally, but I have decided that I need to rally the troops to help mai pal Dougal get some more votes in this Shorty Award thing that he has been nominated for.

Now our Dougal is a very hard working doggie as any of you who have been to a #PawPawty will know, he keeps us awake on a regular basis tapping away on the computer thing. So we decided to ask him why he does all of this stuff and what it is all about. Here's what he said...Oh and he had to answer in 140 characters or less just to make it a bit more fun!

Zack: What is all this #Pawpawty nonsense?
Dougal: Its a monthly 24hr virtual party to have fun, win pwizes, meet new people and to raise funds for animal charities all over the world

Zack: Sounds a bit crazy to me who comes along to such things?
Dougal: Well we have lots of animals, kittys, woofers, furries, as well as ppl who care about animals, we even had @GodzillaofJapan turn up at one

Zack: Sounds interesting so how much moula you raised then?
Dougal So far in less than a year we have raised over $23000, for over 20 different shelters all over the world , thats a lot of bowls of cat food

Zack: So how does it all work?
Dougal Anipals nominate charities, donate prizes , donate funds, win prizes and generally have fun at the same time, we love to pawty on down

Zack: So what's a DJ, CJ, or FJ?
Dougal Every pawty needs music so we have Dog Jockeys, Cat Jockeys, Furry or Feathered Jockeys, we have Bunnies as well but don't call them BJ's!

Zack: How do they play music?
Dougal Simple when you know how they use Blip.fm to create a playlist and then tweet the tunes, sorry am I getting to teckinal fur ya mai pal?

Zack: I heard that you have drinkies and noms as well?
Dougal: Of Course we have a great team who create tasty morsels to tempt our taste buds, as well as gallons of drinkies to make the pawty rock

Zack: Why do you you all dress up? I have seen some weird outfits

Dougal: We love having fun and dressing up is part of that, we have some great pals who know how to use pawtoshop who help us pick our outfits

Zack: Does it not get a bit mad at times?
Dougal: It is hard to keep up but we use apps like tweetdeck and tweetgrid to make sure that everyone can join in and see who is at the #PawPawty

Zack: Ever get any gatecrashers?
Dougal: Well we have a great sekutiry team who report all those nougty ppl who turn up half dressed or worse and pretend to be B R I T N E Y

Zack: So why do you want to win this Shorty Awards thing?
Dougal: Simple mai pal if more people join in it means more creative ideas, more amazing connections , more donations, and more animals saved

Zack: What will you do if you do not win?
Dougal: I will carry on my mission of saving and helping more animals one paw at a time, after I have dunked my head in a bucket of bacon beer BOL

Zack: is it true that being a finalist means you got an invite to New York
Yep , but I will be sending the staff to New York, as I really hate airplane food and I've heard it's kinda hard to go wee wee mid atlantic

Well mai pals we have held the draw for the recipient of the February #PawPawty and I am pleased to announce it is Pet Samaritan Fund which was nominated by @indykitty

"The Pet Samaritan Fund, a nonprofit organization established in 1991, aids needy animals mainly on the Wasatch Front and Uintah Basin. We are not operated or fundedby any national humane groups or government agencies and must rely on our adoptions fees and contributions.

Every penny we raise goes to caring for our animals, and we never euthanize a healthy, adoptable animal.

We provide:
•Shelter and medical care for animals taken into our foster program until permanent homes can be found. Most of our animals are from municipal shelters.
•Assistance to spay and neuter animals for low income families in our areas "

As you know we usually so a televised draw however we have had a technical problem this month ( Camera is Broken and Phone does not record Video!) So the staff used an on line service called Random to pick out the winner. We do hope that the camera is fixed soon so we can take more photos and show you the next draw televised, you all know how much Dougal likes to be in the picture

Mai pals , I am almost speechless, but I have to say a huge thanks to all of you for getting me to the finals of the Shorty Awards. This means so so much because less than a year ago no one had ever heard of a PawPawty and I did not know much about this thing called Twitter.

But how a year has changed all of that, now because of all of your help and support the PawPawty events on twitter have grown into the only regular event that uses the power of twitter to mobilise people all over the world to help animals in need.

We have raised over $23,000 for 20 shelters from all over the world
Animal Lovers worldwide have donated over 500 prizes for us to use in competitions
We even appeared as a trending topic on twitter on a number of occasions

We have created a strong community who care not only about animals but also about each other, and now we have the opportunity to share all of this with even more people.

What's Next

Needless to say anything you can do to spread the word next week to ask your pals and all animal lovers to nominate me will help.

At the moment we are looking at the possibility of having another #shortypawpawty on Thursday 4th , which of course will be a chance to have some fun, spread awareness and raise some money for anipals. As soon as all of the details are finalised we will be back in touch.

Begging its a dog thing

Mai pals thank you all so so much for all of the nominations for the Shorty Awards, just in case you do not know what these awards are for they are kinda like the Oscars on twitter.

"The Shorty Awards honor the best people and organizations on Twitter. These unique awards are for the Twitter community, by the Twitter community. Online voting is public and democratic, culminating in an awards ceremony that recognizes the winners in 27 official categories as well as those in brand new crowd-sourced ones."

They are not like some of the contests where people who were clever with a PC could set bots up to vote 24 hours a day. These guys are actively watching out for any dubious activity, they are legit and the winners get invited to an awards event in New York.

I was so pleased for the whole of the animal community on twitter when you guys got me to be one of the five finalists, but the contest is not over yet!

In order to stay in the game we need to be in the Top 5 on Friday, January 29, 2010 at 11:59:59 pm Pacific time so please please continue to ask your friends to nominate me.

You can vote for as many people as you like in as many different categories, but your vote only counts once ( as far as I can tell by the rules) so to keep me in with a chance of winning, you guys need to get your pals who have not already voted to vote for me.

Viva WAG Vegas PawPawty

Well mai pals what a time we had at the Viva Wag Vegas, lots of fun and games and possibly the best costumes I have ever seen. You ladies really looked hot hot hot.

The amazing news is that we have raised a total of $1878 for the animal charities that are helping out in Haiti in the time of great need. I am sure that every dollar we have raised will be much needed and appreciated. The donation links will be available until the end of the month so there is still time to donate.

You can find out more about what the charities are doing by checking in on the WSPA site and by following @wspa on twitter. They are in Haiti now on the ground assessing the situation.

We will be doing the usual follow up over the next few days to make sure all your prizes are on their way and of course to start planning the next PawPawty.

Viva WAG Vegas PawPawty Update

Mai pals as you know we usually have a draw for the monthly PawPawty charity , and I just want to say thank you all so much for the nominations. You can see them all on the pawpawty blog comments.

However following the terrible news about the earthquake in Haiti I have had a number of requests to help out the animals in Haiti in some way. So this month’s Pawty will be helping the The International Fund for Animal Welfare (IFAW) and the World Society for the Protection of Animals (WSPA) who have formally agreed to head up a coalition of groups to address the needs of animals in Haiti following the earthquake that devastated the country.

You can read more about the work they will be undertaking on the IFWA site and also on the WSPA disasters blog. I have set up two widgets, one for UK donations and one for USA donations, that way if you are a tax payer in your individual country the charity will get extra tax benefit from your donations. The donation widgets are on this page on the right and also on the PawPawty Site.

I have set the limit at $500 and £500 but I am sure that we will be able to raise more than this to help the animal relief organisations working together in Haiti.

Who will care for the Animals?

Anipals I have felt great sorrow and concern for the people of Haiti following the devastating news of the massive earthquake which they have suffered. Most of us will never have to go through anything like this in our lifetimes and I feel extremely contrite having posted so many messages complaining about the snow and general bad weather conditions in the UK. What is a bit of snow and ice compared with conditions and repercussions that the people in Haiti face.

My perspective has changed.

Therefore I would like to dedicate the PawPawty this month to helping the animals in Haiti. It is difficult to get information at the moment about the best way to channel funds but a number of you have pointed out that there are a few teams getting ready to go and help the animals. I would like to help fund their mission.

Of course all of you who have nominated a charity for this month's PawPawty may be disappointed, however I feel their need is greater than any of us could ever imagine.
I can assure that all of the charities or shelters already nominated will be entered into the draw for the February #PawPawty so you nominations will not have been in vain.

I am hopeful that the anipal community will share my view that at this time we should look to the greater need of others in this tremendously difficult time.

I'm all Shook Up

Hey mai pals it is time to sort out all the details for the first official #PawPawty of 2010, and it is gonna be a good one.

We have already had a few themes suggested, but I fear it would be cruel of me to not go with the wonderful suggestion of @perrythebirman and @fergusthedog for an Elvis theme. The King would have been 75 this year if only he had sought some help from others to help him with the demons that plagued him.

So in his honour we will have a big Elvis #PawPawty Viva Wag Vegas style. So I know you aint nothin but a hound dog but I don't want to hear you crying all the time. Lets have some great dressing up costumes, you can go to town it is Vegas after all!!

We still have the important matter of deciding on the charity/shelter we are supporting this month so if you want your shelter or charity to be in with a chance of being the recipient of the Elvis #PawPawty then please post a comment on this blog post detailing who you want to nominate.

Dougal will then pick the recipient and we will broad cast the result.

If you have already e-mailed Dougal about the charity you want to nominate then please check below to see if we have got your charity/shelter listed. If we have forgotten, then please remind us, we are both getting a bit older these days and sometimes miss an the odd e-mail.

Well mai pals it is almost time for another PawPawty, this month on the 21st and 22nd November we will be supporting Sunny Harbour Cat and Kitten Rescue from Scotland. If you want to see how I picked the charity earlier today then have a look at the YouTube Video.

We also have a very special event at the Pawty, the wedding of @Poppy_Dog and @Hanseebundee, wedding preparations are well underway and we are all so excited to be having what I think is the first twitter anipal wedding at one of our PawPawty events.

As we are having a wedding it is only right that we all dress up in our best outfits I for one am getting my Tuxedo ready, ( with my pink bow tie!). Had a look for the Heron that usually fishes in this stream which comes from Rutland Water and is just at the bottom of Smelly Field. The Heron was no where to be seen this morning. He obviously knew that he need to take shelter before the storm and torrential rain arrived.

A stick to chew on my walk

On my walk this morning I found one of my tasty sticks I had left in Smelly Field on a previous visit. As you can see I was allowed to have another little chew of my stick. All you have to do is leave a comment against this post giving the name and if possible a link to the charity or shelter that you want to nominate, if you have time why not tell us all why you think they should be the PawPawty recipient.

We will then arrange for a televised (now that the staff have worked out how to do You Tube) draw to take place where the recipient will be selected by yours truly. We thought this was a better way of selecting the charity as we do not want anyone to get repetitive paw injury from having to vote ( like we did in September).

You have until the 6th of November to nominate, and the draw will take place over the weekend of the 7th- 8th November.

Please remember that we like to support smaller charities who do not have a massive advertising/marketing budgets or hundreds of thousands of people already supporting them.

Well we changed most of the clocks at home because it is now officially Autumn, and outside the leaves tell the same tale. Spotted these leaves this morning some of them still green and clinging to the branches, my bet is they won't be there for long!!

A freshly ploughed field, all ready for some barley to be planted. We cannot believe that it is this time of year again. Makes us glad to have seasons so we can appreciate the changes throughout the year. It is also easier for me to spot the rabbits in fields like this even if I cannot catch them. Great time at the Farm

We went for a lovely walk at the Farm this weekend, we love going to visit my Brofur and all the other Farm Anipals. But I was not so sure about these two cows, they looked very mean with their horns and staring eyes so we walked quickly through that field

Me and Scooby liked these cows a lot more, can you see how they were coming over to have a look at us. We had the good fortune to be on the other side of a little river so that kept those inquisitive cows on the other side on the river bank.

We got to the canal at the bottom of the farm and my Brofur Scooby decided to do some swimming, that's Pip the old lady farm dog next to him. Pip rounds up the cows, and I think she would like to round up me and Scooby as well but we keep her on her paws, chasing two Cairn Terrors round the fields!

Look at Scooby he got the stick, he loves swimming, I had a little swim myself boy was that water cold!

We had a lovely weekend at the Farm it is a beautiful place to visit and we loves to go and see our Anipal friends and of course our Human friends. We all had a lovely weekend, playing in the sun and enjoying time with out special friends.

Rose Hips, the seed pods of roses, they look like very autumnal, it was raining today so only a short walk maybe I will have a longer walk later, if the sun comes out to play.

Some cows in the field next to my favourite smelly field. At least I think they were cows? I hope it's not any of you guys still wearing your Down on the Farm #PawPawty outfits! This one was very curious and looked like he was leader of the pack.

A man on a roof of a lovely thatched cottage, he was putting new thatch on to the roof to make it all warm and cosy for winter. We have lots of cottages like this in the place where we live.

Blueberries and it made me think how much I like blueberry pie, muffins, jam, cobbler, in fact anything with blueberries at all. They are almost past their best, I saw them on the way to smelly field, I call it smelly field because there is a boggy bit in it which is all squishy under my paws, it is my favourite field.
